HISTORICAL NOTES: The Fattoria di Bagnolo, an historical agricultural estate of the Bartolini Baldelli family, is in Impruneta’s hills, dominating Florence from the south side and with splendid views over the Chianti hills.
Dating back to 1419, when this estate was called "Al Fonte', it belonged to Machiavelli family from 1458 to 1585. Around 1800 , Bartolommeo Bartolini Baldelli, who fell in love with the beauty of the landscape,  bought the estate as a summer residence and place of relax for him and his family, and here he died in1868.

Today the Fattoria di Bagnolo is still run with great passion by the Bartolini Baldelli family, particularly Giovanna, helped by her children Alberto, Margherita and Lorenzo, and by her brother Marco.

THE FARM:

The Fattoria di Bagnolo is reknown for the production of high quality wines, appreciated for many years by the most prestigious guides in the sector and by connoisseurs looking for niche products.

In a hilly, sunny and airy position, it enjoys a very favourable microclimate, which together with the special geological structure of the land (mainly limestone, with presence of pietraforte and clay), enhances the characteristics of native vines and olive trees.

In the twentyfive acres of vineyards, the main variety is Sangiovese, but other native varieties such as Colorino, Canaiolo, Malvasia and Trebbiano are also present as well as two international varieties namely Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. The farming system is mainly the cordon single or bilateral system for a better distribution of the clusters. After thinning in the summer (green harvest), the collection will result in an average production per plant of about 1.5 kg of grapes, which allows to achieve an optimum concentration of the grapes. The entire production cycle takes place in our farm: from fermentation to wine ageing, bottling and the following wine ageing in bottle. The wine ageing in wood barrels (mostly French barriques and tonneaux) takes place in our XIV century cellar .

The main varieties of our olive trees are Frantoio, Morellino, Leccino, iPendolino and Madonna di Impruneta, whose olives are harvested to produce a very high quality Extra-vergin olive oil that can be traditional (with different cultivar of olives) or monovarietal (using only the best olives from Frantoio and Moraiolo olive trees). The olive harvest is done manually and storage times are minimized (6-24 hours). Particular attention is to the grinding at low temperature and at malalation times which vary depending on the maturity and cultivars. The oil thus produced is stored in nitrogen-sealed steel containers.
